Michelle Koyama qualified in law and has been working with ACB since 2007. Her focus is on biopiracy, with a particular emphasis on a community in the Eastern Cape, their knowledge of the medicinal properties of two species of Pelargonium and the patents that a German-based company, Schwabe Pharmaceuticals, have taken out on the use of extracts from these two plant species.
